Celebrating One Year of “A Teaching Parent”

My name is Melissa McDonald. I am a wife, mother of 2 toddlers, teacher, LSLS Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist, and author of this blog. You can read more about my family and background by going to About.

I started this blog last summer (almost to the day). It was the first summer in years that I took a complete break from education (no teaching, no professional development courses, no mentoring, no professional conferences, etc.). It was nice to have some down time, but I soon realized that I missed having a connection to my profession. In addition, my daughters were teaching me new things every day, and I wanted to share these new insights with others.

My goal for this blog is to help other parents by sharing my observations, suggestions, successes, and failures. I also hope to help other professionals who work with children and parents by giving them a different perspective. I believe that building stronger relationships between education professionals and parents will help students be more successful in school.

Thank you for joining me on this journey!

Melissa 🙂
